Portland's St. Johns Bridge

Unusually warm spring weather in the northwest made for a very pleasant trip out on the St. Johns bridge in northwest Portland. Built in 1931 and recently renovated in 2005, the St. Johns is arguably the most attractive bridge in Portland. The sidewalk alcoves around the massive support columns make for a fun place to see the lights of the city skyline and catch the fresh evening breeze coming off the Willamette river.

Traffic thundering across causes the whole bridge to shake and vibrate.
Looking south past the northwest industrial district into downtown Portland from the St. Johns bridge.

The squeaks and groans the bridge makes gives you the feeling of standing upon a living creature.

Wonderful attention to detail in the design of this bridge.
